About the Lion
The Panjshir Valley in Afghanistan is translated literally as the Valley of the Five Lions. One of these lions was born in September of 1953 and given the name Ahmad Shah Massoud.
In 1982, Massoud created a military council to help defeat the Soviet invaders, dubbed Shura-ye-nazar, that would coordinate the efforts of 130 commanders. Today, we call this council the Northern Alliance. There are many stories about Ahmad Shah. I only wish to pay what little homage I can. The man was one to remember.
